As the holidays roll around, pet parents may be more focused on their families, travel plans, and the excitement of the time of year – and less on bringing in their pets for exams, medication, and anything else they may need for the holidays. Not to mention, the long holiday weekends and hospital closures tend to give clinics fewer days to bring in revenue – so it’s time to jump into action.

1. Make sure to update your hours on the website and Google.

Providing excellent customer service means letting your clients know your holiday hours ahead of time so that they’re able to schedule accordingly. More importantly, so they don’t make a trip to see you while you’re closed. Make sure your hours are notated, posted to social media, and expressed inside the hospital. This will allow you to plan ahead and fill the days that your clinic is open with appointments.

2. Holiday specials!

Buy six, get two free on heartworm medication. Free nail trims during a particular type of visit. Free dental examinations and 15% off dental cleanings. Stay two nights and get the third free for holiday boarding. Whatever it is, it’s always great to end the year on a high note. If you have specials that will get people in the door – tell the world! Share it on the homepage of your website, social media pages, and email lists. Everyone loves to save during the holidays, and that includes deals on pet care!

3. Partner with local charities for a good cause!

We have plenty of hospitals that work with charities during the holidays and get their clients involved. This is a great way to grow your brand in the community, and do it by helping those in needs. Partner with shelters for donations, food banks, or anything that means a lot to your team. Be sure to promote it in the hospital and online, and get your clients involved. When we use our marketing powers for a good cause, everyone wins!

4. Be active on social media!

People love to see behind-the-scenes of your veterinary hospital! Take photos, post videos, share your holiday decorations and really get into the spirit! This is the time to share photos of adorable patients and your veterinary team dressed up for the holidays. Share health tips, reminders about vaccinations, and anything else your clients should know!

5. Get those reviews coming in!

It’s no secret that more (good) reviews give you a nice SEO bump. Well, tis’ the season to spread love and cheer. Make sure you go above and beyond for your clients during the holidays, and the good reviews should start pouring in! Even better – if someone is extra happy after a visit to see you, just ask! Sometimes, the most straightforward avenues for getting new reviews are the ones that work best.
