It’s easy for the marketing team at WhiskerCloud to tell you what we think you should be doing to grow your veterinary practice, and we work hard to keep up on all of the latest marketing and advertising trends. However, we thought it would be a good idea to hear from the veterinary community. So we asked!

If money wasn’t a factor, what is ONE thing you’d do to improve your veterinary business?

Surprisingly, the answers were not all about marketing or advertising. Below are some of our favorite answers from the veterinary community.

First up, Tara Waterhorse wanting to help the community.

“Philanthropy. If money wasn’t an issue I’d dedicate a whole day or section to volunteer causes staff would like to be a part of.” 

We love this! This is a great way to showcase all of the good that veterinary hospitals do, most of which are unseen. This can be used to showcase the team and the causes they care about on social media.

Brindon Banks of Bean Veterinary Services is ready for more marketing!

“More marketing. I’m going to be at a start up on monday and man, do I miss my corporate advertising budget!” 

This is a good mentality to have, because advertising and marketing are investments in growth, and they are necessary for any business to grow. Use stories from the hospital and existing content to showcase your business and services offered!

This is wonderful, and exactly what you want the owner of a business to be thinking. Growing your team and retaining staff is so important at any veterinary clinic. Why? Employee turnover can cost organizations anywhere from 16% to 213% of the lost employee’s salary. We have a guide on cutting down turnover in your veterinary hospital.

Dr. Dirk Dekens of Montgomery Village Vet wants to empower his team.

“We would train all our staff with advanced veterinary training as it’s good for them and us to train and retain good people! Then maybe add a clinic!”

Investing in your team is another way to invest in growth for the hospital. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again – showing a new employee that your team is invested in their long-term success is a great way to let them know you hope you have them around for the long haul.

Dr. Julie Buzby of The Animal Medical Center of the Lowcountry had an awesome, outside-of-the-box idea!

I would hire someone to be the clinic concierge. Sole job description would be maximizing client and patient comfort and awe during the check in, waiting, and checking out period. I envision a super polite gentleman, well dressed, complimenting the people on their pets, handing out beverages, and facilitating smooth traffic flow. Maybe doing a couple simple magic tricks in the waiting area if kids were getting rowdy waiting to be put in a room. 😂 seriously, this needs to be a thing in vet med. It’s the super upscale, more purposeful, pet-loving version of the Walmart greeter.

Could you even imagine how great this would be? It’s no secret that Walmart is building its own veterinary brand, but that doesn’t mean you should just bow down to them! We think it’s important to treat your veterinary business (or any size) as a big brand, and big things will come!

Our final big idea comes from Libby Wallace-Nupnau of Stuebner Airline Veterinary Hospital in Spring, TX!

“We hired my husband (who works in the tv industry and has multiple Emmy nominations as well as an Emmy) to do promo videos. He captured 20 hours of footage last week and finished one of many videos.”

Everyone has talented friends and family members – use those relationships and opportunities to create content and showcase your business. Video marketing is one of our top five marketing trends for veterinary hospitals in 2020, and this is a great example of how to crush that.
